The last time we mentioned goal setting and planning for the year ahead who would have known we’d be thrown into lockdown chaos only a few months later! As the dust of March and April settles and things are starting to get moving again for many businesses, it’s time to reevaluate those goals you set in January and get on course to achieving them, or their version 2.0. So, knowing everything you know now, how will you readjust the path you set your sights on in January? This may mean starting from scratch with a blank canvas, or maybe you’ve been through hell and the best thing to do is just keep going.
No goal is too big, or small , however it’s important for it to be SMART. If you’re unfamiliar with the SMART acronym, it’s essentially a checklist to ensure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. Do you have the systems in place to achieve your revised goals? Have you got a plan ready for your next step? Do you need support getting to the finish line?
Think about where you are now, and where you want to be. It’s important to find where there is headroom for growth. COVID may have reshaped your industry and created opportunities to expand or develop into new areas of business. We’re at a point where options are ripe for the picking and these opportunities are only likely to keep coming up. So, are you grabbing every opportunity you should be? Now could be a great time to develop skills you’ve been sitting on, experiment with new markets or put ideas to the test. Imagine taking the time you’ve spent on your business doing the reactive work as result of COVID and pouring it into positive, proactive developments – think of the possibilities. With all this being said, no goal is too small – the most important thing is to focus on the best path for your business!
A mid-year planning session could be a great way to make sure the team is onboard with one vision and direction. Employees are the engine of a business and keep the cogs moving. Either on the front line, or behind the scenes, they’ve likely got a few ideas or that could be tapped into to make your business better than yesterday.
